KAHULA as a foal

KUALOA was a superstar on the track herself — a multiple Group 1 winner, 2YO Filly of the Year and 3YO Filly of the Year. From just 24 starts she recorded an incredible 13 wins and 6 placings, earning her place among the elite of her generation.
Her pedigree is equally as impressive. Her dam was imported mare HAWAIIAN HOTTIE USA, a half-sister to champion performers MALTESE ARTIST ($2.3 million) and ARTESIAN ($878,049), while the family has consistently produced high-class performers on both sides of the Tasman.
But perhaps KUALOA’s greatest legacy is now unfolding in the breeding barn.
On Friday night at Wagga, KUALIGHT notched another victory, taking her record to 3 wins and 5 placings from just 13 starts. As the first foal from KUALOA, she’s already showing the toughness and ability that made her dam such a special racehorse.
Then on Saturday night came an even bigger reminder of the mare’s quality when KAHULA captured the $200,000 Nutrien Classic Final at just her second career start.
Remarkably, KAHULA was passed in at the sales after not reaching her $50,000 reserve. Sometimes the catalogue can’t tell the whole story, and sometimes the best value horse is the one that stays at home.
Two nights, two exciting winners, and further proof that champion racemares often become champion producers.
KUALOA’s story is still being written, but the early chapters suggest her influence on the breed could be every bit as impressive as her own achievements on the track.
