We’re proud to present our 2023 draft of yearlings at the Melbourne NUTRIEN sale. This year our draft of 17 consists of 9 colts, 1 gelding and 7 fillies.
As always we aim to “have a yearling for everyone”, hoping that our draft includes sale toppers as well as very nice yearlings at affordable prices.
We believe the stand out colts in the draft are Lot 382, Lot 672, and 485.

Lot 485, is a full brother (and clone) of superstar Group 1 winner BEYOND DELIGHT, 11 wins, 1:51.6. The dam, WHATAHOTTIE NZ by CHRISTIAN CULLEN, is from the great NZ ABERFELDY family, which includes REBA LORD, $385,880, MEGAERA, $250,646, SHANDALE, $305,028, CASH N FLOW, $651,067 and KATY PERRY, $550,093.
Our filly draft also has some stand outs.
Lot 655, is a half sister to Australian 3YO Colt Of The Year, ACT NOW, 19 wins, 1:53.2, $696,185. As a 3YO, won the Victorian Derby (GR1) and Australian Breeders Crown, (GR1). As a 4YO, won 4&5yo Championship, (GR2), Australian Breeders Crown, (GR2), 2 heats of the INTERDOMINION, third in final, (GR1).
Lot 600, is the fourth foal from (Gr.1) winner HEAVENS TREND, Australian 2YO and 4YO of the year. The winner of 21 races for $385,683, setting an Australasian record mile rate of 1:52.1 for 2YO’s and 3YO fillies in the semi final of the NSW Breeders, going on to win the (Gr.1) final in 1:52.6.
She then set a new 3YO fillies track record at Melton, and won the (Gr.2), 4YO Breeders Crown .
Lot 403, is the third foal from top performing imported ROCKNROLL HANOVER race mare, ROCKAROUND SUE, 1:51.0, winner of 23 races and $626,181. A multiple stakes earner at 2, 3 and 4, she is from an outstanding high performance family with 5 generations of black type winners.
The mare’s first foal, and full brother to this filly, BETTER ROLL ON, had 4 wins in Australia, prior to export to the USA, where he has had multiple wins to date.
The pedigree of the mare includes WESTERN HANOVER, DIRECT SCOOTER, CAMBEST and ARTSPLACE on the fourth line, with MOST HAPPY FELLA, BGs BUNNY, ABERCROMBIE and ALBATROSS, featuring on the fourth line of sire BETTORS DELIGHT, an incredible pedigree making her an important and unique broodmare prospect for Australia, after her racing career finishes.
We shouldn’t forget LOT 611, who was born a rig and subsequently gelded. The remainder of the draft includes some outstanding, well bred types. In particular, first foals of the mares, LOT 462, (ROCK N ROLL HEAVEN/TINA CALLS), LOT 533, (AMERICAN IDEAL/BEACH GARDEN) and LOT 585, (AUCKLAND REACTOR/FISCAL FANTASY) are all very impressive first foals and may be the surprise packets of the sale.
